Which login data do I need for eduroam?

For the Eduroam access you need your login of the URZ (University Computer Center) and the corresponding password. When logging in, it is mandatory to use the login form ab12cde@uni-jena.de. Without the suffix "@uni-jena.de" the login will not succeed.

Is my device compatible with eduroam?

Since October 20, 2021, only devices with TLS1.2 are accepted for authentication in the network. This requires the minimum versions of the following popular operating systems listed here:

  • Android 5
  • Windows 10 v1511
  • iOS 11, iPadOS 13.1, macOS 10.13
  • Ubuntu 18.04 or debian 10 based

Who can use the WLAN (eduroam) of the University of Jena?

The WLAN (eduroam) of the University of Jena can be used by all students, employees as well as registered guests and conference participants. In addition, it can be used by employees and students at universities participating in the "eduroam" initiative.

Where can the WLAN (eduroam) of the University of Jena be used?

The campus of the University of Jena is provided with WLAN as far as possible. This means that you will have access in all facilities belonging to the university or the student union. You can find a detailed overview on this  Datennetz_mit_WLAN.pdf

Is it possible to set up WLAN access (eduroam) outside the University of Jena?

This is possible. Follow the instructions for your operating system to the end. Whether your terminal finally connects depends on whether an eduroam access point is within range.

What is Eduroam?

Eduroam is an international cooperation of universities and scientific organizations that provides Internet access for employees and students at all participating locations. You can therefore use your URZ user login at the University of Jena to connect to the Eduroam network at another university, provided that the university is participating in the Eduroam initiative.

I come from another university. Can I use the eduroam network at FSU Jena?

If your home university participates in the Eduroam network, you can also dial into the Eduroam network at the University of Jena with your user login. You can check the participation of your university here. The necessary information for the configuration of the end device can be found at your home university. Support requests should also be sent to them.

What is a root certificate?

A root certificate is an unsigned public key certificate or self-signed certificate of a certification authority (root CA), and is used to prove the validity of all subordinate certificates. Such a certificate usually contains information about the name of the owner, his public key, a validity period, and the name of the certification authority (CA).

The following certificate is used at the University of Jena:

  • Global Generation 2 security level: "T-TeleSec GlobalRoot Class 2"
    (from 01.10.2008 until 01.10.2033)
