How do I use the Uni-Cloud via the desktop client?

With the desktop client, you can easily and conveniently synchronise the data from your computer with the cloud. Here you will find instructions on how to install and set up the desktop client.

Is there an app for my mobile phone or tablet?

There are various apps available for using the cloud. You can download these from your app store. Search for "Nextcloud".

Is the Uni-Cloud secure?

Your data is only stored on servers at the Friedrich Schiller University Computer Centre, except on your connected end devices.The servers are only maintained by employees of the University Computer Centre. They are embedded in a state-of-the-art security architecture. The transfer of data between servers and end devices is encrypted.

Currently your files are backed up daily at 11pm, a full backup is done weekly, deleted or changed files can be restored up to 14 days back. The University Computer Center does not guarantee for data recovery.

What data may I store?

The Uni Cloud basically allows you to store and share data from research, teaching and studies. Please note that the processing of personal data is subject to the provisions of the Thuringian Data Protection Act (ThürDSG). The consent of the persons concerned or an agreement on commissioned data processing is therefore required. Likewise, copyright and data protection regulations must be complied with.

We would like to point out that the uploading and dissemination of illegal content is not permitted. This applies in particular to data that violates criminal law, data protection law, personal rights law, licensing law and copyright law.

How can I synchronise my data with the cloud?

The easiest way to synchronise your data via the desktop client is to define in the client which folders should be synchronised with the Uni Cloud.
